Wildcats Wrap Up Pre-Vanderbilt Practices: The Kentucky football team had its final practice before the Vanderbilt game Thursday morning at the Nutter Training Center. Coach Rich Brooks gave an update on the team following the workout.

“Randall Cobb practiced without his cast today,” Brooks said. “Hopefully that thumb will start settling down. It’s going to be some pain for him. It just needs to continue to improve.

“Everybody we talked about is ready to play physically. We will decide on a starting quarterback on Saturday. They both (Mike Hartline and Morgan Newton) will play.”

The coach also noted a game-time decision at tight end, with seniors Ross Bogue and Maurice Grinter vying to replace the injured T.C. Drake. Bogue has started four games this season, but has been slowed this week as he recovers from a strained knee incurred last Saturday vs. Eastern Kentucky.

The Wildcats take on the Commodores on Saturday at 12:21 p.m. EST (11:21 a.m. CST in Nashville). The game will be televised on the SEC Network, along with ESPN GamePlan and ESPN360.com.

Evans, Dufrene are Game Captains: Defensive end DeQuin Evans and linebacker Jacob Dufrene are the game captains for the Vanderbilt contest, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Dufrene was selected primarily for his outstanding effort on special teams in the win over Eastern Kentucky. He made a tackle on kick coverage and also made a tackle for loss while playing linebacker. Evans made three tackles against the Colonels, all for losses, including a quarterback sack. This is the second time in the last three weeks that Evans has earned the game-captain role.

Evans and Dufrene will join permanent captains Zipp Duncan and Corey Peters at the pregame coin toss.

“Cat Walk” Set for 9:05 a.m. Central Time: Fans wishing to participate in the “Cat Walk,” cheering the Wildcats when they enter Vanderbilt Stadium on Saturday, should be at Gate One of the stadium at 9:05 a.m. Central time (10:05 a.m. Eastern time).
