KNOXVILLE,
Tenn. — The Kentucky women’s golf team opened the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship with a 322 Friday at Fox Den Country Club (par 72, 6317 yards) in Knoxville, Tenn.
Freshman Betsie Johnson led the squad with a 6-over-par 78. Johnson currently stands in a tie for 56th.
Sophomore Ashlee Rose followed Johnson with an 8-over-par 80. Senior Sara Hurwitch and Freshman Ashleigh Albrecht each shot an 82. Freshman Heather Lott rounded out Kentucky’s scores with an 88.
Host No. 18 Tennessee leads the event with a 5-under-par 283. Tennessee’s Diana Cantu is the top individual with a 69.
Lott tees off tomorrow at 10:39 a.m. EDT on No. 10. The team will continue to tee off every nine minutes.
Kentucky faces a number of Southeastern Conference competitors at the tournament. SEC opponents include Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Florida and LSU. Also participating is Louisville, Wake Forest, TCU, Kent State, UTSA, Chattanooga, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Furman, Ohio State and Tulane.
