UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The earliest snowfall on record and a forecast of more snow accumulation forced the cancellation of the Penn State National Invitational cross country meet Friday morning.
The Invitational was the last regular-season meet on the Wildcats’ schedule. The UK squads will be in action again at the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Ole Miss on Halloween.
“Our men and women were really disappointed when they cancelled the meet,” said UK assistant coach for cross country and distance John Mortimer. “We were eager to prove our mental and physical toughness against quality teams in challenging conditions. Now we will have to wait until the SEC Championships in two weeks to display our resolve.”
Both UK teams won their first two meets of the season and both squads placed second two weeks ago at the Greater Louisville Classic. Freshman Cally Macumber was named the SEC Country Female Freshman of the Week for her performance in the Derby City. Macumber clocked in as the Wildcats’ top runner for the second consecutive women’s race, finishing 12th overall.
