TULSA, Okla. –

Kentucky tennis sophomore Eric Quigley won a second round battle of ranked players in straight sets at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships’ qualifying singles tourney Tuesday hosted by the University of Tulsa at its Case Tennis Center.

No. 70 Quigley swept Duke’s No. 86 Dylan Arnould in two sets to advance to the third round of the qualifying tourney. Quigley rolled in the first to win 6-1. In the second the Wildcat scored a 6-4 victory over the Blue Devil. The Pewee Valley, Ky., native’s triumph sets up a battle between Southeastern Conference foes, Mississippi State’s Louis Cant takes on Quigley for the right to advance to the All-American main draw.

In other action Tuesday, junior Brad Cox came up short against Ohio State’s No. 60 Shuhei Uzawa in his second round match. Uzawa, the tourney’s 13th seed, fought off the Wildcat in the first set to win 7-5 before the Buckeye clinched the match in the second set at 6-2.

On the doubles side, the UK team of Alberto Gonzalez and Alex Musialek did not compete in their scheduled match against Western Michigan’s Calderone and Komada who advanced in a walkover.

The No. 24 doubles tandem of Cox and Quigley gained automatic entry into the 32-team doubles main draw that begins Thursday.
