LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Megan Broderick of the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team is set to compete in the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. She will begin match play in the qualifying round which begins Monday, Oct. 5.

The Tampa, Fla., native, ranked No. 77 in the nation in preseason polls, will face Katrina Zheltova, a senior from Sacramento State. Zheltova has also been ranked in the preseason at No. 56.

Broderick must advance through three rounds before entering the main draw. Should she earn a win during Monday’s matches, Broderick would face the winner between Elze Potgeiter of Texas A&M or the No. 4 seeded Mari Andersson of California.

Earlier this year during the summer circuit, Broderick battled her way through three qualifying matches to make it into the main draw of the Fifth Third Bank Tournament in Lexington. The Wildcat’s biggest victory came in the third round of the qualifier when she defeated Julia Cohen of Miami (Fla.) who was ranked No. 376 at the time. Broderick had faced two other world-ranked players in the two previous rounds.

Fifty-six at-large selections (and wildcards) are joined by eight players from the prequalifying tournament of the championship to make up the qualifying round; only eight will advance to the main draw. For complete tournament information visit www.itatennis.com.
