Georgia Game Notes
LEXINGTON, KY – The road doesn’t get any easier for the UK women’s soccer team as they host the No. 22 (NSCAA) Georgia Bulldogs (8-1-1, 1-1-0) Friday night at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Cats will be facing their third straight ranked opponent after traveling to No. 10 Florida and No. 12 South Carolina last weekend. UK pushed both teams to the limit but came up on the short end of two heartbreakers.
“We have had a tremendous strength of schedule this year playing three Top 15 teams in the country, all one goal games,” said UK head coach Jon Lipsitz. “We know that we have to get over the top and win these big matches in order to regain the national spotlight. There are more opportunities this weekend and in the future and we will continue to push to improve every day so that we can take the program to the next level.”
Kentucky is 4-9-2 all-time against the Bulldogs and is searching for its first win in the series since the 1999 season.
The Bulldogs have one of the more explosive players in league history in senior forward Carrie Patterson. Patterson, who is on the verge of ranking in the Top 10 in league history in points and goals scored, ranks second in the league with six goals and is tied for third with 15 points.
UK will counter with a solid defense that has only allowed multiple goals in regulation once this season. The Wildcats have allowed only one second half goal all season and rank 36th in the country in goals-against-average (0.65).
Kentucky goalie Sydney Hiance and the UK defense has recorded five shutouts this season, a personal best for the junior goal keeper.
The Cats and Bulldogs are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff Friday. Live stats and blog will be available at www.UKathletics.com.
