LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished play at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational on Sunday at the University Club of Kentucky with a 14th-place finish (318-303).
Also competing in the event was the junior varsity squad. They finished tied for 10th with a 614 (311-303). With a 1-under-par second round, JV competitor Ashleigh Albrecht paced both Wildcat teams with a 4-over par 147 (77-70). Albrecht’s 70 marks her lowest score as a Wildcat.
“Ashleigh Albrecht carded the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career with an outstanding 70 in rain-soaked conditions,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said.
Freshman Heather Lott registered a 17th-place finish (74-76) for the tournament. The Baton Rouge, La., native was in eighth place entering the second round.
Seniors Sara Hurwitch (77-74) and Kristin Vincent (75-76) led the varsity squad, with each shooting a 151. The senior duo finished the tournament in a tie for 24th.
“Heather Lott turned in a solid top-20 finish and continues to get more comfortable with each tournament. Kristin Vincent and Sara Hurwitch have had back-to-back top-25 performances and are showing consistency in their senior roles,” Blackwelder said.
Next, the Wildcats travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship Oct. 16-18. Last season, Erica Still led the team at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship with a 1-over-par 217 (72-74-71). The Cats finished in ninth after a final-round 296 (296-301-296).
