LEXINTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished the opening round of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational in 15th place (318) Friday at the University Club’s Big Blue Course.
Currently tied for ninth is the Kentucky junior varsity squad (311) who is also participating in the tournament. Freshman Heather Lott, competing for the JV team, led both teams with a fifth-place 74. A native of Baton Rouge, La., Lott registered an even-par 36 on the opening nine and continued with a two-over performance on the second nine.
“Heather Lott paced the team with a strong score today,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “She has shown great improvement since her first tournament.”
Leading the varsity squad was senior Kristin Vincent. A native of Burlington, N.C., Vincent also posted a 36 on the front nine.
“Kristin Vincent showed a great deal of leadership during the first round,” Blackwelder said. “She continually anchors our team with her experience.”
The second round of 18 resumes Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. EDT shotgun start. A 54-hole tournament, the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational concludes Sunday.
“Conditions were tough today and we anticipate them to be more difficult tomorrow. We will make adjustments and I expect a strong second round from both teams,” Blackwelder said.
