LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s golf team heads to the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville on Sept. 21-22. Held at the Cardinal Club (par 72, 6,253 yards) in Simpsonville, Ky., the event will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.

Freshmen Ashleigh Albrecht, Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott, and senior Kristin Vincent return to the starting lineup for the Wildcats after appearing in the season opener at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Making her season debut, junior Louise Ljungstedt rounds out Kentucky’s starting five.

“I fully expect Betsie Johnson, Ashleigh Albrecht and Heather Lott to continue to use their strong ball striking to produce low scores this week,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “Likewise, after a year of dedication to her fitness and short game, Louise Ljungstedt is returning to the lineup. She will bring a more extensive short-game arsenal and better confidence. I think that she, along with senior Kristin Vincent, will provide leadership, and we should have an excellent chance to contend for a team title this week.”

Albrecht (79-77-76) and Johnson (78-74-80) each finished tied for 37th at the Mary Fossum Invitational, and Vincent finished tied for 47th with a 233 (76-81-76). Lott registered a 245 (85-82-78) at the event.

Junior Louise Ljungstedt competed in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate and the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate during the 2008-09 season. She posted her season-low score in the third round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with a 75. Ljungstedt finished tied for seventh at the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate.

Also competing in the Cardinal Cup are three Wildcat individuals. Kentucky’s individual golfers include senior

Sara Hurwitch and sophomores

Megan Moir, and Laura McGehee.

Hurwitch finished the 2008-09 season with a 78.3 stroke average and recorded her best finish at the Kiawah Island Invitational in a tie for 14th (80-73-72). McGehee competed at the Lady Mocs Invitational last season, where she finished tied for 17th. Moir makes her collegiate debut at the Cardinal Cup after redshirting her freshman season.

Kentucky joins an impressive 12-team field at the Cardinal Cup. The competitors include: Brigham Young University, Eastern Kentucky University, Illinois State University, Morehead State University, University of Akron, University of Cincinnati, University of Louisville, University of Maryland, University of Missouri, University of South Florida and University of Southern Mississippi.

The Wildcats last participated in the Cardinal Cup in 2006 and posted an eighth-place 928 (313-307-308).

Next, Kentucky is set to host the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational on Sept. 25-27 at the University Club in Lexington, Ky.
