EAST LANSING, Mich. –
The University of Kentucky women’s golf team concluded the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course in eighth place today with a 920 (304-308-308).
Sophomore Ashlee Rose led the Wildcats throughout the weekend and posted a 225 (71-76-78). Although she recorded a double and triple bogey in today’s final round, Rose finished tied for 16th. She tallied nine birdies during the tournament.
Senior Kristin Vincent and freshman Ashleigh Albrecht each registered a 76 in the final round. Making her collegiate debut, Albrecht finished tied for 37th with a 232 (79-77-76). Vincent posted a 233 on the weekend (76-81-76).
Also making their first appearances for Kentucky were freshmen Heather Lott and Betsie Johnson. With a 6-over-par 78, Lott shot her best score in the final round of action. She finished with a 245 (85-82-78). Johnson finished tied for 37th with Albrecht and registered a 232 (78-74-80).
Host No. 20 Michigan State edged out the 17-team field and took the tournament title with an 11-over-par 875 (289-293-293). No. 7 Purdue recorded an 878 (291-288-299) to take second.
“Although our young team recorded their first top-10 finish, they are looking forward to getting back to work in order to iron out a few kinks before we travel to Louisville,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said.
Kentucky next travels to the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville Sept. 20-22. The event will play 18 holes each day.
