LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior cornerback Trevard Lindley has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the season-opening victory vs. Miami, the league office announced Monday.

Lindley had an interception, three pass breakups and three tackles against the RedHawks. He returned the interception 25 yards for a touchdown, marking the third consecutive season he has tallied a defensive TD, joining his fumble return at Arkansas in 2007 and interception return vs. South Carolina in 2008.

Lindley’s three breakups give him 37 in his career, moving him up to eighth place on the SEC career list.

Lindley was part of the Kentucky defense that helped post a 42-0 win, the Wildcats’ first shutout in 13 years.

This is the second time that Lindley has won one of the weekly league honors. In 2006, he was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week for his game-clinching interception in the upset of Georgia.

The last Wildcat named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week was tackle Myron Pryor for his accomplishments in the 2008 season opener at Louisville.
