LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky golfer Ben Fuqua, considered a senior in the 2008-09 season, has been granted another year of eligibility from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, head coach Brian Craig announced Monday.

A native of Danville, Ky., Fuqua was granted the additional year of eligibility due to medical issues.

Fuqua played in all 12 events for the Wildcats last season, posting a 73.47 season stroke average. Fuqua’s season low round on the season was 65, posting back-to-back 65s at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate for an impressive 54-hole total score of 198, the lowest 54-hole total in UK history. Fuqua had two top-10 finishes on the year, along with finishing 20th or better in five tournaments.

In addition to Fuqua, Kentucky will return the rest of last year’s team, with the only subtraction being 2008-09 senior Andy Winings. The Wildcats also add three very promising newcomers in Michael Kania, Cody Martin and Chase Parker.
