Lexington, KY – In an effort to set a new school record of 5,000 season tickets for the 2009-10 season, the Kentucky women’s basketball team will hold a 5K run/walk called the “5K for 5K” on Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The race is set to begin and end at Memorial Coliseum.
The event will be one of five during the summer and fall to help break the current season ticket record of 4,808 set in 2005-06. The entire season ticket campaign is called “Drive for 5K.”
“The ‘Drive for 5K’ is something we came up with to help break the 5,000 season ticket mark,” UK Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “We are going to do five events in the five months leading up to the start of the season in October. The first event is the ‘5K for 5K’ and it’s sure to be an exciting time with a lot of activities for family and kids. I’m even going to lace up my running shoes and run in the race.”
Season tickets cost just $45 for 17 exciting home games in Memorial Coliseum. This year’s schedule, which will be completed and released later this summer, is highlighted by matchups against first-time opponent Boston University in the season opener on Nov. 13 and intrastate rival Louisville on Dec. 20. The Southeastern Conference schedule also will feature eight home games compared to seven in previous years, as the league has adopted a 16-game slate beginning in the 2009-10 season.
All new or returning season ticket holders who purchase and/or renew season tickets by Wednesday, June 17 will receive one free entry to the race for each of their season tickets.
Fans interested in becoming new season ticket holders may go to UKathletics.com and click on the “5K for 5K” button on the front page. Order forms also may be picked up at the Athletics Ticket Office at the Joe Craft Center. For ticket questions call the UK ticket office at 1-800-928-CATS.
Current season ticket holders should receive a renewal form in the mail within the week. Those who do not wish to renew at this time will still be able to do so during the normal renewal process in August. Seat locations will not be assigned until renewals have been completed. Anyone wishing to just enter the race, but not purchase a season ticket, may do so for just $20.
Each entrant will receive a commemorative race t-shirt. The day also will feature interaction with the women’s basketball players and coaches as well as entertainment, food, and activities for families and children.
