LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three Kentucky women’s basketball players were named to the 2008-09 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced this week.

Sophomore Carly Morrow (Chattanooga, Tenn.), senior Carly Ormerod (Louisville, Ky.), and senior Eleia Roddy (Columbus, Ohio) were among three of the 45 honorees from Kentucky that were selected.

The 2008-09 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2008 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.

(1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution. (2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll. (3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons. (4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution. (5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.

Morrow, an economics major and member of the Dean’s List for the fall semester, played in all 32 games with 14 starting assignments. She averaged 7.5 points per game and led the team in three-pointers with 48. She also was a SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll member last season.

Ormerod, a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, graduated in May of 2008 with a degree in biology, an entire year early. She is currently working on a second degree in human nutrition with plans to enroll in physician’s assistant school. Despite a foot injury that hampered her the last two seasons, Ormerod ended her career ranking in the top 10 of several UK career categories, including three-point field goals made (101-8th), three-point field goals attempted (315-7th), and three-point field percentage (32.1-10th). She played in 25 of 32 games and averaged 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game during her senior season.

Roddy, a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and member of UK’s Athletics Director Honor Roll for the fall semester, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in December of 2008, a semester ahead of schedule. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in family studies. After four career knee surgeries all on her left knee, Roddy had one of her most productive seasons in 2008-09. She played in 31 of 32 games and was UK’s second-leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and rebounder (8.2). Her 12 double-doubles during the season led the SEC and her 16 career double-doubles ranks fifth on UK’s career chart.
