COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team received a second consecutive top-15 finish from sophomore Tyler Reed in the 200-freestyle and the 200-medley relay tapped in 15th overall to keep UK in the hunt for a top-20 finish for the second straight season after the second day of the 2009 NCAA Championships.

For the second straight season sophomore Reed is an All-America honorable mention in the 200-freestyle with a top-15 finish at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Reed capped off the event with a 15th place finish with a time of 1:35.30. He was seeded 15th in the event after the preliminary heat in the morning with a time of 1:34.39. His preliminary time tops his own school record set earlier this season at 1:34.71. As a freshman he placed 13th in the event with a time of 1:35.21.

Kentucky’s 200-medley relay scored a top-16 finish for the second straight season. The squad comprised of senior Shane Eliason and juniors Eric McGinnis, Elvis Burrows and Kyle Greene captured a time of 1:26.32 which tops the school record previously set this season. In their third place finish at the SEC Championships the quartet scored a time of 1:27.00.

Eliason took the backstroke leg and earned a 22.65 split. McGinnis swam the breaststroke leg in a time of 24.23 with Burrows in the butterfly leg finishing in a time of 20.60. Greene anchored the race with the freestyle stroke and touched in a split time of 18.84.

Greene tallied another impressive run individually in the 200-free when he placed 24th overall nationally in the event. The junior clocked in a time of 1:35.34 which is a new career-best clip. The time is also now the third best time in school allure.

Burrows and junior Alex Forbes competed as individuals in the 100-butterfly. Burrows scored a 47.33 time and finished 32nd overall in the event. Forbes tapped in a time of 48.51 for a 46th place finish.

After two days of competition Kentucky stands in 16th place with 26 points scored behind two relays and Reed’s top-16 finish.
