LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team (1-3 overall, 0-3 Southeastern Conference) hosts the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks (4-1, 2-0 SEC) Fri., Feb 6 at 7 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum during its annual Pink Meet.
Kentucky’s Pink Meet benefits UK HealthCare’s Markey Cancer Center. The center is home to a team of specialists who work together in a single location at the Comprehensive Breast Care Center so women and men can receive timely and accurate breast care in one convenient setting. The center also has dedicated outpatient chemotherapy suites open seven days a week to accommodate patient needs. Markey Cancer Center was nationally ranked 46 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 list of best cancer hospitals.
Admission is $1 if you wear pink to the meet (full ticket price for all other fans). A portion of all ticket proceeds benefit breast cancer research, education and treatment at the Markey Cancer Center. Free pink mugs will be handed out to the first 300 fans. Friday’s meet is also Girl Scout Night, providing FREE admission for Girl Scouts wearing their uniforms or T-shirts. The sophomore gymnasts will be signing autographs following the meet.
Last time out, Kentucky faced No. 8 Florida (3-1, 2-1 SEC) in Gainesville, Fla. During the meet, the Gators outscored the Cats, 195.925-193.850. Despite the loss, the Wildcats were able to improve on the balance beam. Senior Heather Hite and junior Hillary Ferguson took team top-honors on the event, both earning a 9.750 and second place overall.
UK senior Natalie Rubinstein continued her dominance on the uneven bars, earning a 9.825. Rubinstein took team top-honors on the event for the fourth time this season. She is ranked No. 18 nationally on the bars. Ferguson, Kentucky’s only all-around performer of the night scored a 39.075 overall. She led the Wildcats on the floor with a 9.825, good for third place, and is No. 21 on the event.
Arkansas comes to Lexington after defeating No. 9 Alabama in Fayetteville, Ark. The Razorbacks and Crimson Tide were tied at 147.300 entering the final rotation. In the end, Arkansas outscored Alabama 196.625-196.525.
Razorback Casey Jo Magee ranks No. 3 in the all-around and earned her fifth all-around title with a 39.450. Magee, the No. 2 gymnast on the floor exercise, posted a 9.925 on the event against Alabama.
