LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wildcat women’s tennis team (1-0 overall, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) return to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex to host four teams in the team’s home-opener weekend. UK faces East Tennessee State (0-0, 0-0) and Eastern Kentucky (2-1, 0-0) on Fri., Jan. 30, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, respectively. The Wildcats continue on Sun., Feb. 1 with Winthrop at 10 a.m. ET and Miami University (2-3, 0-0) at 3 p.m. ET.
UK has had two weeks to rest since its season-opener in Huntington, W. Va., against Marshall. The Wildcats took the win in just over four hours, 4-3.
ETSU will play its first match of the season on the road against EKU on Jan. 29, before making the short trip to Kentucky’s campus. The Buccaneers last saw action at the Duke/UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational, in Durham. N.C., to close out its 2008 fall season.
The Colonels most recently swept Wright State, 7-0, then defeated Xavier, 4-3, in their home opener, but fell to No. 32 Ohio State on their first road match of the 2009 season.
The Wildcats are an all-time 11-0 and 5-0 against Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee State, respectively. Kentucky previously defeated the Bucs, 6-1, last season.
Kentucky is currently 16-0 in double-header season openers in Lexington.
Winthrop will be coming to the Bluegrass after a 6-1 road-win against Davidson. The Eagles last saw the Wildcats at the beginning of the 2008 season where Kentucky swept, 7-0. Miami comes to Lexington on a three-match losing streak after starting the season 2-0. The Redhawks last dropped a 5-2 match against Illinois.
