LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior setter Sarah Rumely has been named to the second team All-America team by the Under Armour/Volleyball Magazine it was announced Tuesday. The All-America teams for the magazine are voted on by the volleyball national media.

This marks the first such honor for the Palestine, Ind., native. Rumely earned AVCA All-America honorable mention honors in December.

“Sarah is very deserving of this honor,” Kentucky coach Craig Skinner said. “She had a great season and had a major impact on our success. Sarah continues to reach new heights each year as a player.”

Rumely was named to the AVCA All-South Region first team after being named the SEC Player of the Year to conclude the season. She became the seventh player in school history to win AVCA All-America honors.

She is just the third player in school history to chart over 4,000 assists and is also among the leaders on the career service aces list with 139. Rumely was in on every point in UK’s season, as she helped guide a balanced UK attack that ranked third in league play and first overall in hitting percentage. For the season she notched 12 matches with 40 or more assists and recorded nine double-double efforts. She set a career-high with over 100 blocks while positing her third straight season of 1,000 or more assists.

Rumely and the Wildcats concluded the season ranked No. 22 in the final AVCA poll of the year after concluding the year with a 26-6 overall record and a 17-3 clip in SEC play.

The Blue and White spent 10 weeks in the national polls, enjoyed a 12 match winning streak, tallied the most SEC victories in school allure and advanced to a school-best fourth straight NCAA Tournament to highlight an exciting 2008 season.
