BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Becky Pavan was tabbed the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Pavan enjoyed another outstanding performance in helping UK reach 17 conference victories in 2008. She led UK to a sweep of Auburn for their 26th victory of the season, the sixth most wins in school history. Pavan was a match-changer at the net for the Blue and White leading them with seven total blocks for a blistering 2.33 blocks per set average. She was equally dominating on the offensive side powering her way to seven kills on a team-best .462 hitting percentage. Pavan led UK with 3.83 points per set for the week.

With her five block assists against Auburn, she has moved into UK’s top-10 for block assists in a season with 130 on the year. For the season, Pavan leads UK and ranks among the leaders in the SEC with 1.21 blocks per set.

A week ago Pavan was honored as the league’s best freshman after helping UK to victories over Florida and South Carolina.

Pavan’s honor marks the eighth SEC Freshman of the Week honor for UK in the last three seasons. The freshman from Kitchener, Ontario, has earned the honor twice this season. In 2007, Sarah Mendoza (1) and Lauren Rapp (3) both claimed weekly nods. Sarah Rumely was honored as the Freshman of the Week twice in 2006.

No. 17 Kentucky is vying for at least a share of the SEC Championship this week when they play host to Tennessee on Senior Day, Friday. The match with the Lady Vols is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Admission to the match is free.
