LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum more than 3,500 fans witnessed No. 22 Kentucky upset 12th-ranked Florida in a thrilling five-set affair.
The University of Kentucky is delighted with the support and excitement surrounding the volleyball team. Because of the amount of fans attending yesterday’s match, some fans were issued parking tickets in the R-1 lot adjacent to Memorial Coliseum. The lot is reserved for students with residential permits and is controlled for permit-only parking 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
UK Parking & Transportation Services has agreed to void all tickets issued in the UK R-1 lot behind the Coliseum during the volleyball match on Sunday, November 16, 2008. Any questions may be directed to 257-8000.
The excitement surrounding UK Volleyball is growing, and the possibility of an SEC Championship and an NCAA bid looks bright for the end of this season.
As everyone experienced success Sunday with one of largest crowds on record of over 3,500 people, unfortunately some fans received parking citations for illegally parking in student resident reserved slots behind Memorial Coliseum. While the lots were properly signed by UK Parking & Transportation Services, some failed to observe the signs or assumed that the lots were off control over the weekend.
It is important to remember the rights of residential student parkers, even in light of the volleyball team’s recent successes. There is plenty of legal parking available for all events in three different lots near Memorial Coliseum. UK Athletics wants fans to return for future games and matches with the certainty that there are spaces to park that won’t result in a citation. Please carefully observe all signs before entering any lot. A map of parking lots off control in the evening and on weekends is available from Parking and Transportation (PDF).
The SEC leading UK volleyball team will return home for a match with Tennessee on November 28, at 7 p.m. Please join Head Coach Craig Skinner and the Wildcats to help celebrate Senior Night as they honor Queen Nzenwa and Alisa Pierce.
“I would love to see a big crowd again this season,” Skinner said. “The fans were incredible yesterday. Their energy and excitement for the Big Blue was a big part of our win.”
