LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s basketball team looks to get back on the winning track when it takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats Monday, Nov. 17 in Memorial Coliseum. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. EST and be carried live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio) with Neil Price.
Single-game general admission tickets are available for $5 adults/$2 senior citizens and children 6-18. Ages five and under are admitted free. UK students, faculty and staff also are admitted free with valid identification based on availability. Fans are encouraged to park in Parking Structure 5 located next to Kennedy’s Bookstore on Limestone Avenue. Parking within Parking Structure 5 will be available free of charge. A shuttle bus service also will be provided and begins one hour prior to game time until one hour after the game. Additional game day parking is available in the E lots surrounding Memorial Coliseum including the Martin Luther King Parking Lot and the Student Center Parking Lot. The R lot (residential), directly north of the Joe Craft Center is not available for event parking, vehicles will be subject to ticket/tow.
The Wildcats (0-1) have no time to dwell on a 70-60 loss to Michigan less than 48 hours ago in their season opener. Despite a double-double (19 points and 10 rebounds) from sophomore Victoria Dunlap (Nashville, Tenn.), the Cats struggled offensively, shooting just 32.0 percent from the floor, including 12.5 percent from the three-point line. UK won the rebounding battle 44-34 and outscored UM 19-5 in second-chance points but couldn’t overcome the hot-shooting Wolverines at 50.0 percent (23-of-46).
“We have to get back in the gym today, roll our sleeves up and get back to work because we have a very quick turnaround,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “Cincinnati is another good team and hopefully we will shoot it better than we did on Saturday. We look forward to getting back out there and showing what I know this team is capable of doing.”
Cincinnati (1-0), coached by J. Kelley Hall in his second season at UC, is coming off a 66-59 win over Detroit in its season opener. Redshirt-junior Shelly Bellman, who sat out last season with a knee injury, led the Bearcats with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in her return.
This is the 25th overall meeting between the teams, the 24th matchup since UK became a varsity sport in 1974-75 (the teams also played in 1972-73). The Cats hold a 17-6 lead in the modern era, including a 12-0 advantage when playing in Lexington. The last meeting between the border rivals came in 2004 with Cincinnati taking a 60-52 win in the Queen City. UK’s last meeting against UC in Lexington was Dec. 31, 2002.
