LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley has been named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back.

Lindley, a junior from Hiram, Ga., is one of 13 semifinalists. He leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks sixth nationally in total passes defended. He has four interceptions and nine pass breakups this season. He returned one pickoff for a touchdown against South Carolina and his interception of Florida’s Tim Tebow is one of only two picks sustained this year by the Heisman Trophy winner. Although only a junior, Lindley already is UK’s career leader for pass breakups (32).

The award is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Association of Oklahoma City, Okla. Thorpe, an Oklahoma-born Native American, was a great all-around athlete, playing pro football and pro baseball while winning gold medals in the 1912 Olympics decathlon and pentathlon.
