WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kentucky’s No. 55 Megan Broderick had her ITA Southeast Regional run cut short. The Tampa, Fla., native was taken out of the tournament in the quarterfinal round during Sunday’s matches at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center courts.

UK’s top singles player Broderick faced a familiar opponent in the quarterfinals, Vanderbilt’s No. 40 Catherine Newman. The Wildcat previously matched up with the Commodore at the ITA All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif., with Newman taking the win. Broderick had her third three set match of the weekend against Newman, except with a Vandy win. Newman earned the first set, 6-1, but the Blue and White took the next set, 6-7 (4), in a hard fought attempt to stay in the match. The Commodore managed to outplay Broderick in the third, 6-1, for the victory and a trip into the semifinals.

Broderick knocked out Clemson’s Federica van Adrichem in a three-set showdown to advance to the quarterfinals, winning, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. In the round of 64 Kentucky’s own defeated Tennessee’s Sam Orlin, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(6).

The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue action on Nov. 6, at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The fall tournament is the last for the Cats before regular season matches begin in January.
