Baton Rouge, La. – The UK women’s soccer team (3-11-2, 1-6-1 SEC) dropped their sixth straight match, losing 2-1 to the 17th ranked LSU Tigers (12-2-0, 6-2-0) in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, doing so 2:37 into the match. Malorie Rutledge sent a centering pass to Rachel Yepez who finished with a one-timer, her seventh of the season.
Kentucky answered in the 17th minute off a goal by Kate Hughes, her second of the season. Tara Herold took a free kick for the Cats and delivered it in front of the LSU goal where Hughes sent a header just inside the left post, tying the match at 1-1.
LSU, however, caught the Wildcat defense on their heels, reclaiming the lead only 15 seconds later. Rutledge sent a pass to Roslyn Jones who fired a shot that deflected off a UK defender into the net for the 2-1 Tiger lead.
Neither team could scratch in the second half, as the Wildcats extended their winless streak against the Tigers to four games.
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, hosting the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the UK Soccer Complex.
