LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshmen Megan English and Ethan Settlemires posted solid scores while gracing the starting lineup in their first collegiate match to lead the Kentucky rifle team to a 4643-4564 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes, on Saturday morning at Barker Hall.
Kentucky (1-0) was led by Settlemires and English who posted solid scores while in the starting lineup for both guns. Settlemires posted a match-high 199 in prone smallbore, finishing with a 576 in smallbore, second-best on the team. English posted a 572 in smallbore and a 586 in air rifle.
“I was very pleased with our team, but we know we have plenty of room for improvement,” Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. “It is important for us to get back to training and get better everyday. I thought Megan and Ethan performed very well to be in the first college match. They are two very talented freshmen and we expect big things from them this year.”
Juniors Tom Csenge and Jen Pason also led the way for the Wildcats, with Csenge leading the team with a 577 smallbore total and a 589 air rifle score. Pason, the 2006-07 GARC Rookie of the Year, finished with a 573 in smallbore, including a 195 prone score.
“Tom had a good day, leading us in both guns,” Mullins said. “He is one of the top shooters in the nation and has really emerged as a go-to guy.”
Ohio State got a solid score from James Clarks, who posted OSU-highs in smallbore (579) and air rifle (584).
On the white team for UK, Andrew Roland posted a 580 in air rifle and a 573 smallbore total. Ashley Jackson totaled a 582 in smallbore on the white squad and a 573 in smallbore on the first-team. Leslie Angeli finished with a 581 in air rifle, while Clint Sejkora (576 – smallbore) and Sarah Broeker (578 – air rifle) posted good scores.
