CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Junior Eric Still carded a 74, a five-stroke improvement from her first round of the 2007 Lady Tar Heel Invitational, to lead the University of Kentucky women’s golf team to a tie for 14th overall after the first round of the 2008 Tar Heel Invitational, on Friday at Finley Golf Course.
“Erica played another very solid round today that entailed hitting 15 greens and converting two birdies,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “She bounced back from a double bogey late in the round and birdied the last hole to finish strong.”
The Wildcats competed against 13 top-50 ranked teams including No. 8 Virginia and No. 23 Wake Forest, who are tied for first-place with a six-over-par 294. Tied for 15th with NC State, Kentucky is only four strokes away from top-10 ranking.
“The team got off to a poor start, leveled out in the middle of the round and then threw in three birdies in the last two holes to salvage the day,” Blackwelder said.
Freshman Alyssa Randolph made her collegiate golf debut, making two birdies on the front nine, for a tie for 59th place. Juniors Mallory Blackwelder and Kristin Vincent tied for 49th, carding a seven-over-par 79.
Tee times begin at 9 a.m. ET off No. 1 and No. 10 tees Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a shotgun start at approximately 9:15 a.m. ET. Live scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com and www.TarHeelBlue.com.
