After battling windy conditions and a brief rain delay at Wolf Run Golf Club, the Wildcats held on to finish in fourth in their third appearance in the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Kentucky was led with strong performances from seniors Andy Winings and Ben Fuqua.
Michigan was the team champion with a three round team total of 880, Illinois was second at 890 and Louisville finished third at 891.
Kentucky senior Andy Winings 214(74-69-71) continued his solid play with a final round 71 to give him two rounds at or under par for the tournament. Winings finished with a one-over-par and tied for second place overall.
“We just gave away to many shots on a very difficult course,” said Brian Craig. “Andy Winings and Ben Fuqua had very solid performances and did a superb job carrying the team this week.”
Senior Ben Fuqua 222(74-73-75) made his mark on the filed finishing tied for ninth spot overall and the second leading scorer for the Wildcats.
Junior Alex Volpenhein fired a three-round total 232(73-77-77) to put him in a tie for the 42nd place and third on the team. Carding a 240(85-74-81) junior Brian Belding finished tied for 58th.
Newcomer Mads Kristensen, playing as an individual, finished tied for 42nd after shooting a six-over-par final round.
The Wildcats return to action in two weeks when they travel to Franklin, Tenn. for the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.
