Beijing, China – Competing in his first Summer Olympic Games, former University of Kentucky middle distance runner David Freeman set a season-best time in the 1500 meter run at the National Stadium in Beijing, China, Friday.
Running under the flag of Puerto Rico, Freeman crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 3:39.70. The 2004 Wildcat alum finished 10th overall in his heat. The competitors with the top five times in each preliminary heat automatically qualified for the semifinals on Sunday. Freeman will remain in Beijing with his team through the end of competition where he will cheer on his UK brethren.
Current Wildcat seniors Jose Acevedo and Mikel Thomas will compete in their respective events on Monday. Acevedo will race for Venezuela in the 200m dash and Thomas will run the 110m hurdles for Trinidad and Tobago.
