LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former Kentucky pitcher Greg Dombrowski, the UK school record-holder for career winning percentage, has signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Reds, it was announced Friday.

Dombrowski, who wrapped up a historic four-year career with a win in the NCAA Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., finished with a staggering 23-5 career record and a 3.86 ERA in 282 career innings. The right-hander earned a 6-1 record and a 4.10 ERA in 2008, working 79 innings with 15 starts, striking out 58. A crafty, sinker-baller, Dombrowski appeared in 62 games with 46 starts during his four years, toiling four complete games and one complete-game shutout. Dombrowski’s 23 career wins marks the second-most in UK history.

As a sophomore, Dombrowski posted a career year, helping lead UK to its first ever Southeastern Conference Championship, going 10-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 2006, including a complete-game performance vs. Notre Dame in an elimination game in the NCAA Lexington Regional.

Dombrowski, a native of Rome, N.Y., will report to the Reds Gulf Coast Rookie League affiliate, the GCL Reds in Sarasota, Fla.

Dombrowski marks the school-record seventh player from the 2008 Wildcats to sign a professional contract (Sawyer Carroll, Scott Green, Collin Cowgill, Andrew Albers, Ryan Wilkes and Tyler Howe), equaling seven players who signed following the 2006 campaign.
