MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.? Rising junior Megan Pulskamp placed 15th overall in the 100-butterfly in tonight’s finals of the 100-butterfly at the US Open swimming championships Thursday in Minneapolis.
Pulskamp found herself in the semi-finals of the event this evening after securing the final spot of the top-16 in the morning’s prelims. She upped her position by a spot with a time of 1:01.81 to move into 15th overall.
Pulskamp, seeded 25th in the event to begin the day, surged past fellow collegiate swimmers and earned a place among the top-individuals at the meet for the semi-finals in her final event at the US Open. The UK swimmer touched the wall with a time of 1:01.18 to earn the final spot.
Although Pulskamp was just a shade off of her seed time of 1:01.05, the impressive swim this morning was enough to earn her a place in the finals. Mary Descenza earned the win in the event with a time of 58.30, earning a meet record.
The U.S. Open will serve as the selection meet for the 2009 World University Games, to be held from July 2-7, 2009, in Belgrade, Serbia. The highest placing athlete in each event who will be enrolled as a full-time university student through Jan. 1, 2009 will to be invited to the World University Games Team.
The meet will follow the traditional schedule of morning prelims and evening finals with the morning sessions starting each day at 9 a.m. CT and evening finals beginning at 6 p.m. CT.
