Lexington, KY ? Two Kentucky women’s basketball players were named to the 2008 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced this week.
Carly Morrow of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Amber Smith of Winter Haven, Fla., were among two of the 52 UK freshmen selected to the team, a mark that ranked fourth-highest in the SEC.
To earn a spot on the team each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
Morrow, who plans a major in business, played in 23 of 33 games and averaged 3.6 points in 13.0 minutes per game. Smith, a pre-integrated strategic communication major, went down with a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 3 vs. Tennessee but prior to her injury started in 14 of 21 games and averaged 9.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. She was named to the All-SEC Freshman team for her impressive rookie season.
The 2008 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2007-08 academic calendar.
