The rising junior tallied the ninth best time in the country and 39th best time in the world in the 50-meter freestyle an incredible feat for the UK swimmer.
McGinnis tapped the wall in a personal-best time of 22.40 in today’s morning races. The time is even more impressive in a sprint event especially after he scored a career-best time in the event just yesterday with his 33rd place finish in a time of 22.93. He qualified for the Olympic Trials with a time of 23.03 and has almost knocked off a complete second from his entry time.
The rising junior has now scored a top-10 time comparatively against fellow Americans. However, he did not tap the wall with today’s time during the preliminary heats held yesterday, therefore he will not be among the field in tonight’s final eight. The top two finishers in tonight’s race will earn a spot on the Olympic Team. McGinnis can still be considered for other events, particularly a spot in the World University Games.
