Click for full-size image OMAHA, Neb. ? Rising senior swimmer Shane Eliason enjoyed an outstanding start to his Olympic Trials in Omaha, Monday morning to lead the way for the Blue and White. Eliason finished in 35th place in the 100-meter backstroke in a personal-best mark of 56.92 seconds, nearly a second-better than his seed time.

Eliason swam in the very first group of the preliminary heats and finished 35th out of 81 swimmers in the event, improving his seed dramatically. Randall Bal led all swimmers in the event with a 53.28 time. Eliason was just 3.64 seconds off of the leader?s pace.

Rising junior Kyle Greene was the other Wildcat in action in day two of the U.S. Olympic Trials. Greene took part in the 200-meter freestyle and tapped in a time of 1:53.25 for 70th place. Olympian Michael Phelps eclipsed the field for the top spot in a time of 1:46.63.

The Kentucky swimmers will resume action on Wednesday with three participants in action. Rising junior Eric McGinnis will be among the field in the 100-freestyle alongside rising sophomore Tyler Reed. UK?s top-16 finisher yesterday, Will Vietti, will return to the pool in the 200-meter breaststroke on Wednesday.
