TAMPA — Kentucky junior goalkeeper Dan Williams, playing summer soccer in the United Soccer Leagues, as been named the Premier Development League Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Williams has been playing his summer soccer with the Des Moines Menace of the Premier Development League, entering its ninth week of competition. Williams, a 6-foot-2 two-year starter at goalkeeper for UK, has played in seven games, posting three shutouts for the Menace.
During the week, Williams helped lead the Menace to a 1-0-1 record, posting a shutout vs. the Thunder Bay Chill in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and following that performance up with seven saves in a win the next night. Overall during the week, Williams had 23 saves.
In his seven games for the Menace, Williams ranks fifth in the PDL in saves with 41 and seventh in shutouts (3).
Last season for UK, Williams provided a steady hand amidst an ever-changing, injury-depleted Wildcat defense. Williams started all 19 games for UK, saving 71 shots. Williams was in goal for 99.3-percent of the minutes for the Wildcats in 2008. In 2006, Williams earned third-team All-Conference USA honors, posting a 0.84 goals against average, notching five shutouts in 14 games, saving 37 shots.
