LEXINGTON, Ky. ? University of Kentucky women?s golf coach Myra Blackwelder announced the transfer of Sara Hurwitch from Central Florida to Kentucky, Wednesday. Hurwitch has been released from Central Florida and will have two years of eligibility with the Cats.
“We are very pleased Sara has decided to join our lineup,? said Blackwelder. ?As a junior, she brings experience and depth to our lineup that will be valuable to us as we continue to build our program.”
Hurwitch comes to Kentucky with an already successful collegiate pedigree. As a freshman, she was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year while also earning second team all-conference honors. She placed in the top-10 twice in her freshman campaign, while firing a three-over 75 in her first collegiate round of play. Hurwitch led the Golden Knights in scoring in six tournaments as a freshman. After shooting two rounds of 73 at the Lady Pirate Invitational in the Fall of 2006, she was tabbed Co-Golfer of the Week by the C-USA.
In her sophomore year at UCF, Hurwitch placed second overall with a four-over-par 148 at the Badger Invitational to lead the Knights in scoring to highlight another impressive season.
The Sterling, Va., native graduated from Dominion High School where she was the co-captain of the boys? golf team. She was a three-time MVP of the Dominion squad and was named the Dulles District Golfer of the Year by the Washington Post in 2004, while earning All-Met honors from the Post in 2005.
In 2003, she was named the Junior Female Player of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Association. Hurwitch won the 2004 Virginia High School League Girl?s State Open Championship and has advanced to the sectional qualifying for the U.S. Women?s Open twice. She tallied four top-five finishes in AJGA competition and has posted rounds of four-under par 68 in competition twice.
Hurwitch joins a veteran UK lineup this fall, as Kentucky returns five golfers who appeared in the regular rotation.
