COLUMBUS, Ohio ? University of Kentucky track and field athlete Colin Boevers broke the men?s freshman discus record with a distance measuring 181-4 Friday evening at the Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by Ohio State.

Boevers broke his senior teammate Andy Fryman?s freshman record by over six inches. His fourth-place throw of 181-4 is a regional-qualifying mark and ranks seventh all-time in UK history. Boevers has made a tremendous leap in the discus in less than a month, increasing his distance by an amazing 40 feet.

Junior Chase Madison recorded another discus throw over 200 feet, his third in two weeks, hurling the circular disk 202-9 to win the event. Fryman finished second with a throw of 188-8. Both Wildcats earned regional-qualifying marks for their performances.

Senior Andre Silva earned a regional-qualifying mark in the men?s steeplechase with a time of 9:01.73. With his finish, Silva improves his 10th-best mark all-time at UK in the event.
