LEXINGTON, Ky. ? After tying the school freshman men?s high jump record, University of Kentucky track and field athlete Grant Lindsey was named the Southeastern Conference?s Track and Field Male Freshman of the Week, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.

Lindsey finished fifth overall and was the third collegian in the high jump competition last weekend at the Drake Relays. His personal-best jump as a Wildcat cleared 7-2.50, earning Lindsey his second regional-qualifying mark in as many outdoor competitions this season.

The Mansfield, Texas, native?s height tied the UK freshman record and ranks third all-time in school history. The high jump specialist?s mark is just two inches shy of the UK varsity outdoor record. Lindsey also owns the fifth-best indoor high jump mark in school history.

Lindsey?s high jump height is tied for fifth in the nation and ranks first in the Mideast Region and the SEC. Impressively the Wildcat is the country?s top-ranked freshman in the high jump.

This is the first such honor for Lindsey and the second of the outdoor season for the Wildcats. Freshman Danielle Sampley was recognized as the SEC Female Freshman of the Week on Apr. 15. During the indoor season, the Cats won five weekly honors from the conference and the SEC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year award.

The Wildcats will compete at Ohio State?s Jesse Owens Invitational and Stanford?s Cardinal Invitational this weekend. A full recap will be available after competition each day on UKathletics.com.
