LOUDON, Tenn. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team turned in its best round of the weekend as four Wildcats shot their lowest scores of the Southeastern Conference Championships at the par-72 Tennessee National course Sunday.
Junior Mallory Blackwelder posted a weekend-best one-over-par score of 73 on the final day of competition to finish tied for 27th overall with a three-round tally of 233. Sophomore Erica Still bested her first round score of 78 by a stroke, finishing with her top round of five-over par 77 for a weekend total of 240 ? good for a tie at 44th.
With her best score of the weekend, senior Beth Felts tied for 52nd overall completing the course with a final round of 78 and three-day score of 245. Freshman Louise Ljungstedt carded her second-straight round of 80, tying her low round of the tourney to finish tied in 52nd with Felts. Sophomore Kristin Vincent also shot an 80 to conclude her tourney in 55th overall totaling 247 strokes.
UK?s best round meant the Wildcats gained seven strokes on 11th-place Mississippi State on the final day but the Bulldogs were able to edge the Cats by a stroke with a composite score of 952 to UK?s total of 953.
Florida won the team championship at 874, 17 strokes over second-place Arkansas. But Razorback Stacy Lewis won the individual title with a two-under-par score of 214 on the weekend; a stroke better than Gator Hannah Yun.
