FEDERAL WAY, Wash. ? The University of Kentucky men?s swimming and diving team capped its 2008 season with a 19th place finish at the NCAA Championships securing the best finish for the team since 2005. Freshman diver Stephen Andrews led all individual performers on the final day when he took 11th on the platform.

Andrews? secured All-America honorable mention honors with an 11th place showing in the meet?s final diving event. The first-year diver scored 365.80 points in the finals, more than 20 points more than his qualifying score of 341.20. Andrews was just two points shy of a 10th place finish, but he separated himself from the 12th place finisher by more than 20 points. For the meet, Andrews earned two All-America distinctions which included All-America status on the one-meter after setting the school record and taking fifth in the event.

Kentucky?s relay squad of freshman Tyler Reed, sophomores Eric McGinnis and Alex Forbes and junior Warren Grobbelaar took 14th in the meet?s final event the 400-freestyle relay. The quartet clocked in a time of 2:55.53 for the finish. Reed began the race with a split time of 43.81, with McGinnis following in a time of 44.08. Forbes took the third leg and tapped in 43.93, with Grobbelaar anchoring in a split of 43.71. All four swimmers earn All-America honorable mention distinctions.

UK?s 19th place finish and 47 final points are the most since scoring 116 in their school-best 12th place finish in 2005. This is the eighth team under Head Coach Gary Conelly that has finished in the top-20 in the country.

The NCAA Championships officially wraps up the 2008 NCAA season. Many UK swimmers and divers will now turn their attention to training for the Olympic Trials.
