LEXINGTON, Ky. — Coach Rich Brooks has announced that three Kentucky football players, E. J. Adams, Matt Lentz, and A. J. Nance, would get a look at other positions during spring practice.
Adams (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who will be a junior in the 2008 season, has moved to wide receiver. He played 18 games at cornerback over the last two seasons, including two starting assignments, and totaled 23 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception.
“A. J. has the athletic ability at a position that doesn’t have a lot of returning experience, so we’re going to look and see how he might impact that position,” Brooks said.
Lentz, a redshirt freshman from Simpsonville, S. C., moves from quarterback to safety. A dual-threat QB out of high school, Lentz’ athletic ability and knowledge of the game will serve him well in the defensive backfield.
“Matt broke his thumb in an all-star game coming out of high school and really hasn’t thrown the ball as well as he did prior to that injury,” Brooks said. “He’s a good athlete, he’s smart, he’s tough. We figured there’s another spot he could help us.”
Nance (Knoxville, Tenn.), who will be a junior in 2008, shifts from linebacker to fullback. Nance has been a valuable contributor on special teams, playing every game over the last two seasons and totaling 14 tackles and a caused fumble in kick coverage.
“They may be permanent, they may not be,” Brooks said of the moves. “We’ll get a judge on that in the next week to two weeks.”
Brooks’ squad had its second spring practice Friday morning, a two-hour, 20-minute workout at the Nutter Field House. Practice was held inside because of the wet weather. The Wildcats return to the practice field Saturday, from 1:15 to 3:20 p.m., for their first practice in pads. Practices are open to the media and fans.
Spring Football Calendar: Practices are open to media and fans. Practices held at Nutter Training Facility unless noted otherwise. For practices at Nutter, fans should stand behind the ropes in the porch area. Fans may sit in the stands for practices at Commonwealth Stadium.
Practices might be moved indoors to the Nutter Field House in case of bad weather.
