LEXINGTON, KY ? The 50th ranked UK men?s tennis team (9-9) did not drop a set as they swept in-state rival Murray State (1-7) 7-0 Thursday at the Boone Tennis Complex.
Due to rain that lasted throughout the morning, the Cats and Racers opened the match with doubles play indoors in the Boone Tennis Complex. The Wildcats won all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 match lead.
UK?s No. 2 doubles team of Will Beck and Shane Collins claimed an 8-3 win, followed by the Cats? No. 3 tandem of Alex Lambropoulos and Kyle Virgin who also posted an 8-3 win for the doubles point. The Wildcats No. 1 duo of Bruno Agostinelli and Brad Cox completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory.
After starting all singles matches outdoors, the two teams headed back inside when it began to rain again. Led by 48th ranked Agostinelli?s 6-1, 6-1 win, the Wildcats proceeded to claim six singles victories en route to the sweep.
?I thought we played well and took care of business,? said UK head coach Dennis Emery. ?We accomplished what we wanted to accomplish and now we face our biggest challenge of the year tomorrow night against Mississippi State.?
Kentucky returns to SEC play on Friday when they host the 38th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Boone Tennis Complex. Admission is free.
