LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky men?s golf team battled windy conditions Friday in the first round of the 29th annual Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, firing a six-over-par 294 to put the Wildcats in seventh place after the event?s opening 18 holes.
The SEC has the top-three teams in the field led by Tennessee leads the 18-team field after shooting a 282 in the first round while Alabama is two strokes back and South Carolina is four strokes back with 286. As a team the Cats are just 12 strokes behind the tournament-leading Volunteers.
Junior Andy Winings (Brownsburg, Ind.) is currently in a tie for 23rd place after shooting a 73, while fellow sophomore Brian Belden (Emmaus, Pa.) and senior Cale Barr (Versailles, Ky.) is tied for 36th place with an two-over-par 74.
Senior Brad Doster (Winter Park, Fla.) fired an 77 and is tied for 69th place.
Competing in just his second tournament this spring season, junior Ben Fuqua (Danville, Ky.) carded a 73 which ties his lowest round this spring that he shot in the last weekend in the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate.
