LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team returns to action this weekend at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge, La.
This year?s competition consists of 17 teams all of whom are ranked among the nation?s top-70 teams according to Golfweek headlined by the nation?s 10th ranked team Wake Forest. The field also includes: #26 LSU, #14 Alabama, #43 Augusta State, #65 College of Charleston, #13 Georgia, #36 Florida State, #60 Kentucky, #27 Louisville, #66 Mississippi State, #63 Ole Miss, #34 North Carolina, #41 North Carolina State, #40 UNC-Wilmington, #29 South Carolina, #44 Central Florida, #28 Virginia.
The teams will play 18 holes for three days at the University Club. The course is a par-72 that measures in 6,424 yards. Friday and Saturday tee times begin at 8 a.m. CDT off of tees one and 10. Sunday?s round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT. In the 2007 addition of the tournament, Duke took the team crown shooting an eight-over par team score for the tournament.
Play at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic began in 1982, when the original tournament was named LSU-Fairwood Invitational. Host LSU has won the tournament a record seven times in the 26-year history.
Last time out for the Wildcats, the Wildcats finished tied for 13th at the Lady Gator Invitational Feb. 24. Senior Beth Felts led the way for the Blue and White tying for 16th on the individual leaderboard. Felts notched her fifth-career hole-in-one in round two, and then followed with an eagle in the third round to lead the way. She shot 73-77-71 for the tournament, easily the best three rounds of her final campaign thus far.
