BATON ROUGE, La. ? The No. 55 University of Kentucky men?s tennis team suffered through two rain delays totaling six hours before playing No. 44 LSU under the lights in Baton Rouge, La., Friday evening. The Tigers won the battle against the weather and the Wildcats, 4-0.

The Wildcats were supposed to begin their match at 3:00 p.m. ET but were delayed for two and a half hours before taking the court to begin doubles play. But after a few games were decided on the court the weather became a factor again. The play was suspended until 9:00 p.m. ET when doubles play started after the weather cleared. The match was called as soon as one team reached four points.

The Cats started out well in doubles leading in all three matches after 11 games played in each. But the doubles point would elude UK as LSU rallied at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. At No. 1, the Kentucky team of junior Bruno Agostinelli and freshman Brad Cox were knotted at 6-6 but the Cats? serve was broken and the Tiger team of James Cluskey and Michael Venus held for a close 8-6 win. At No. 3 LSU?s tandem of Sebastien Carlsson and Kevin Dessauer rattled off four consecutive games for a come-from-behind 9-7 win over freshman Will Beck and junior Shane Collins.

In singles, only three matches were completed as a result of the rain delay.

The shortened match meant No. 56 Agostinelli did not finish his three-set battle against No. 86 Venus. Agostinelli won the first set 6-4, but Venus came back in the second, 6-1 to force a third set which ended out in a 1-1 draw.

LSU took singles points at the Nos. 2, 3 and 6 slots with straight-set wins. Beck forced a first set tiebreaker but lost the momentum to LSU?s Carlsson in the second 7-6, 6-1. UK senior Will Ward fought back in the second set after dropping the first but fell short to Tiger Jan Zelezny in the tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6.

The Cats fall to 1-2 in the SEC and 6-7 overall. The Tigers improve to 1-2 in the conference and 5-3 on the season.

The Wildcats travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to try for a weekend split against the No. 69 Arkansas Razorbacks. A full recap of the match will be available on UKathletics.com.
