Gainesville, Fla. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team sits in 13th place after the first 18 holes of the Lady Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida Friday.
Senior Beth Felts, playing as an individual, shot a three-over-par 73 to open play. Felts sits in a tie for 15th place through the first round and led all Wildcat players. Five individual players on the leaderboard shot even par or lower in Friday to lead the individual players.
The host team #5 Florida takes the top spot on the team leaderboard with an even team round to open play. The Lady Gators shot 280 and lead Louisville by 10 strokes. Kentucky carded a 313 team score and sit in 13th place. The Lady Wildcats trail 10th place participant Florida International by just three strokes.
Leading the way for the team was junior Mallory Blackwelder who shot a six-over-par 76 to open action. Blackwelder is currently tied for 27th. Sophomore Kristin Vincent tallied a 77 and sits in a tie for 35th. Freshman Louise Ljungstedt and senior Elizabeth Dotson both fired 80s today and are tied for 59th overall. Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Erica Still who is tied for 77th.
This year?s competition consists of 16 teams, 15 of which are ranked in the latest Golfweek top-100. #39 August State, #51 Colorado, #5 Florida, Florida Atlantic, #86 Florida International, #32 Georgia State, #53 Kentucky, #29 Louisville, #35 North Carolina, #72 North Carolina-Greensboro, #77 Ole Miss, #44 Oregon, #74 South Florida, #59 Tennessee-Chattanooga, and #13 Wake Forest are among the field.
