LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky gymnastics team fell to No. 3 Alabama at home in Memorial Coliseum Friday night. Bama outscored the Cats 196.300 to 193.525.
Freshman Andrea Mitchell performed in her first all-around meet. She scored 9.750 on uneven bars, 9.350 on beam, and 9.675 on floor. Mitchell reached a new personal high on vault scoring 9.725.
?Kudos to Andrea Mitchell because it?s the first meet she did all four events,? said Head Coach Mo Mitchell. ?She really stood strong for us tonight, and I think she?ll only get better against LSU next week.?
Also showing her strong talents was junior Heather Hite winning her third title in a row on floor with a 9.900 score, sharing the top honor with Alabama?s Morgan Dennis. Hite adds this win to increase her team leading career titles to 16. The Wildcats as a team showed perseverance on floor, their last event of the night, posting a total 49.100. Kentucky outscored Alabama in the event as the Crimson Tide tallied 48.950 points. Sophomore Hillary Ferguson placed second on the team and third overall on the floor, scoring 9.850, tying her 2008 record high score.
?We accomplished one thing we wanted to do, and that was we hit bars pretty well tonight.? Mitchell said.
It was clear that the team had been working hard, achieving their 2008 team high score as they notched a 193.525 clip tonight, bettering their season-opening mark of 193.450.
Taking team top honors were sophomores Emily Green and Emilie Rymer. Rymer earned a 9.775 on vault and bars achieving a new personal best for the season on vault and matching her best on bars. Green posted a 9.750 on the beam also beating out her previous season high of 9.725.
