LEXINGTON, Ky. — Sophomore forward Tim Crone, the two-goal scoring hero of Kentucky?s 2-1 upset win over No. 1 SMU on Saturday, has received his third honor of the week, earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Player of the Week honors, the organization announced Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Crone was honored as Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and as a member of the College Soccer News National Team of the week, consisting of the top 12 players in the nation from the previous week.

Crone had not played in UK?s previous four games after having been hampered by an injury that will require surgery at the end of the season. Crone, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, came off the bench in the 59th minute vs. the high-powered Mustangs and needed only 23 seconds to net the game-tying goal for UK. In the 65th minute, Crone struck again inside the penalty area, delivering the game-winning goal after heading the ball off the crossbar and into the goal. The two-goal game boosted Crone?s total to five goals for the season.

Crone was not the only Wildcat honored for their performance in Saturday?s upset win, as UK goalkeeper Dan Williams earned National Team of the Week honors from Soccer America. Williams, a sophomore from Fairfax Station, Va., saved five shots in the game, including four crucial saves in the first half to keep the Wildcats in the game.

The win marked UK?s first win over a No. 1 ranked team in the 17-year history of the UK soccer program. The win also served as UK?s first win in the six-game series with SMU, with UK scoring its first goals on the Mustangs since 2005, as well as netting its first two-goal game vs. SMU in series history.

Kentucky (7-8-2, 5-2 C-USA) returns to action on Friday for the final regular season game of the year, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to face off with South Carolina.

Kentucky Receiving Votes in Soccer Times Top-25

After Kentucky?s 2-1 upset win over No. 1 SMU on Saturday, the Wildcats have received votes for the Soccer Times top-25.

Kentucky began the season receiving votes in three of the four major collegiate soccer ranking services, after posting one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program in 2006. UK has not received votes in any top-25 poll since the second week of the season.

UK has run off a four-game C-USA winning streak, earning a 5-2 conference record, despite starting the season with a 1-5-2 overall record.
