Freshman Patrick Patterson scored 17 points and had a perfect shooting night to help No. 20 Kentucky tune up with a 82-63 exhibition victory over Seattle on Saturday night.

The highly touted power forward out of West Virginia started for new coach Billy Gillispie and dominated on both ends of the court. He was 6-of-6 from the floor, made all five free throws, then added seven defensive rebounds and three blocked shots.

Kentucky, 2-0 in exhibition games, opens Tuesday against Central Arkansas in the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.

Within a span of just 4 seconds early in the second half, Patterson showed how he can take over a game, as he did numerous times leading Huntington High to three straight state titles.

First he dunked home an alley-oop pass from Jodie Meeks, picking up a foul in the process to turn it into a 3-point play. Then, returning to defense, he swatted away a shot in the paint as the Wildcats regained possession.

The Rupp Arena crowd roared, but Patterson pumped up the volume further by waving his arms in the air.

The Wildcats trailed 6-3 early in the first half when Patterson banked in his first basket, then Perry Stevenson made two free throws to give Kentucky the lead for good.

Those points started a 12-0 run, and Kentucky added a 16-0 run later in the half to put the game out of reach.

Kentucky, which overwhelmed Pikeville in its first exhibition game Thursday with Meeks’ shooting, held Seattle to just 34 percent of their shots, including just 27 percent in the first half.

Joe Crawford had 14 points for the Wildcats before fouling out. The teams combined for 53 personal fouls.

Ryan Coldren led the Redhawks with 21 points.

The exhibition commemorated Kentucky’s victory over Seattle in the 1958 national championship game at Louisville’s Freedom Hall. Members of both teams were recognized at halftime.
