LEXINGTON, Ky.? The University of Kentucky women?s swimming and diving team will host its first home meet of the season when they welcome Southeastern Conference foe Florida to the Lancaster Aquatic Center on Thurs., at 3 p.m.
Kentucky and Florida will meet for the first time since Jan. 2004, when the meet was held in Gainesville.
The Blue and White are coming off their first weekend of competition in which they went 1-2. In a tri-meet with Tennessee and South Carolina, the first competition of the season, Kentucky fell to the Volunteers while taking the edge over the Lady Gamecocks. Kentucky then traveled to Blacksburg, Va., for a match-up with Virginia Tech for a second meet in less than 24 hours. The homestanding Hokies took the meet victory.
Despite the two early losses, Kentucky is enjoying some immediate success. Freshman diver Jessie Snowden was recognized as the conference?s best for the week, after winning three of four events in her collegiate debut.
Senior Jenny Bradford won the 50-freestyle in both meets, while also winning the 100-free against the Hokies.
Her classmates Heather Bradford and Lindsay Myhre also opened up their final campaigns with early victories in the 100-butterfly and the breaststroke events, respectively.
Sophomore Megan Pulskamp is becoming an outstanding presence in the butterfly lanes in both the 100- and 200-events, while freshman Jenna Newsome picked up quality points for the Wildcats in the backstroke events. She has also been an early member on the freestyle relays.
Florida comes to Kentucky having dropped a tough meet against the always-dominant Georgia Bulldogs a week ago. The Gators placed third at the SEC Championships last season, and finished seventh nationally.
