LEXINGTON, Ky.? Freshman diver Jessica Snowden has been named the SEC Female Diver of the Week as chosen by the league offices Tuesday.

Snowden enjoyed a stellar start to her career, posting three victories in four events during the Wildcats? opening weekend. In the first meet of her career, she earned wins on both the one- and three-meter boards against SEC opponents Tennessee and South Carolina. The three-meter score she achieved in Knoxville of 308.80 is the sixth best score in UK diving records.

Furthering her successful weekend she earned another first place on the one-meter against Virginia Tech. She placed second to teammate, Kari Retrum, on the three-meter. Her score in Blacksburg on the one-meter of 297.90 is the seventh best mark in Kentucky annals.

Snowden?s award becomes just the fourth time a Kentucky diver has been named the SEC Diver of the Week. Former divers Taryn Ignacio and Joey Brown each earned the award once in the 2004-05 season, while Brown earned the nomination as a senior in the 2006-07 season.

Under Coach Mike Lyden?s tutelage, Kentucky divers have achieved unprecedented success. Lyden is currently the reigning back-to-back-to-back SEC Women?s Diving Coach of the Year and has guided his athletes to 13 SEC Championships including seven titles in the last three seasons.

Snowden and the lady Wildcats return to the pool on Thurs., Nov. 1, as they host Florida at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. This will mark the first home meet of the season for the Blue and White. The first event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
